This is so beyond me but this has to be done. Because Rule #18 is never ever piss DJ off. I’m generally a nice and easy-going person but once you piss me off, I’ll raise hell.

This is a story of trusting people too easily online and getting burned for it. And well, me serving internet karma forever to whoever is searching for this asshole’s name.

This is not travel related so go read something else instead.

I am so pissed and frustrated the last days because of this guy named John*.

You see, I did a reader survey last December and most of you guys said you don’t like the black background of my blog. And because I obviously listen to what you guys think, I decided to change and update the site.

I have been working non-stop on it the last 2 weeks. This is why I have not updated the site after Valentine’s because I wanted to surprise you all. I even installed Crazy Egg which is a great tool that showed me what links you guys are clicking and what stuff you’re looking at on my site. And since I am not so techie I needed someone to implement the new stuff I wanted for the blog.

This is how this John comes in. He’s a Filipino who lives in Iligan City.

He found me via one of the Facebook groups where I posted an ad looking for a guy to help me. He seemed nice and he has the experience based on his resume plus he’s a kababayan (a fellow Filipino) so I decided to hire him.

To make the long story short: I wanted him to work on three things (update the color of the site and some functionalities, update the eurotrip calculator and update a few things on my eurotrip service page). He was working pretty fast in the beginning and he told me it was because it’s his daughter’s birthday in a few days and he wanted to finish asap so he can have the money. And since I’m nice and all, I gave him an advance of $100 and told him I’ll pay the rest after he finishes all the tasks.

After I paid him, he slowed down with the work. I figured it was his daughter’s birthday soon and he was busy preparing. But even after his daughter’s birthday he stopped replying to my messages and worse, he stopped working on the tasks.

I messaged him a few times, even offering to remove some of the tasks since he said they will take longer and just focus on the super minor tasks so we can just finish and be done with it. I didn’t care anymore because I was starting to get stressed that he was not working on it. I even offered to pay him $200 more if he finished just the one task this weekend. But nada. No replies. And I know he sees my messages I’ve sent via Facebook. He also deleted me on Skype.

I’ve had enough of this guy. I don’t need this kind of shit in my life. It’s also my fault. I’m too nice and I trusted this shit person too easily. And this is how he repays that trust and kindness I gave him. I rarely do this. This is the first time I paid someone fully before delivering their work. I don’t care about the money I lost. It’s just $100. That’s nothing compared to all the time and effort and stress this has caused me in the last 2 weeks.

If you’re planning to hire someone via the internet, please be careful and don’t pay until the work is done.

UPDATE: Social media has been crazy. Apparently people he knows read the post and emailed him. So it reached him again. So he immediately messaged me and he was saying sorry again and he asked me to remove this post. He told me he was “caught in the middle of a situation”. Well why won’t he tell me that while I was freaking out for 10 days?!? I would have understood and gave him more time. He also offered to return the money back. After not responding to his messages (which is basically what he also did to me), his wife started attacking me and calling me names. But I’ve replied to him yesterday to sort it out coz I really don’t want any drama in my hood.

*John – name changed after he returned the money and won’t stop bugging me about this
